RICHARD HERRON lyrics : "DEATH RIDES A HORSE"

Death rides a horse I know this much is true,
I saw him myself one Sunday afternoon.
He rode in a horse of black,

wielding two guns of silver with triggers tied back.

Now daddy the sheriff said to me,

run home as fast as you can.
I stopped and turned as daddy pulled his gun,
the click of his hammer, and the glare of the sun.

The man just smiled and tipped his hat back and said.
I'm the fastest gun in this land,

and that old tin star won't make it very far.

With hands as fast as a rattlesnake he pulled his guns,

I saw the lightning and heard the thunder.
As death rode off in a cloud of dust,
daddy made this one request.

He said son, I've done all I can,
I tried to be a good law man.

Now it's up to you, take this old tin star off my chest,
and someday wear it on your vest.

Several years have passed as I ride hard to the west,
a polished star on my chest,
high in the saddle the wind in my face.

With two guns of silver and triggers tied back,
I'm fulfilling my daddys last request.
The thunder rumbles as the sky turns black,

a Texas twister stops me in my tracks.
As out of the gates of hell,
the twister opens its twisting tail.

Out of it death rides on a horse of black,
two guns of silver with triggers tied back.

As he rides closer I remember daddy's words,
he said son I've done all I can to be a good law man.
Take this star off my chest and someday wear it on your chest,

someday you'll be a great law man.

Now we stand face to face, death tips his hat and shows his face.

He said I'm the fastest gun in this land,
if you looking for a fight then you're going to die tonight.

With hands faster then lightning, I shot death down.
Death was looking for a fight, he won't see the morning light.
I've done all I can, now I'm a great law man.
