A young man at around seventeen,

joins the army, to live out his childhood dreams.
he knows they wont be what they seem,
but hes just so proud to serve his country.


He just turned eighteen, hes no kid anymore,
they packed him up and shipped him out to fight a war.

Hes on his way to Afghanistan,
with a helmet on his head and a gun in his hands.


Hes seeing all these things he aint seen before,
all the bombs and the chaos and the blood and the gore.
Hes shaken up and scared and feels so alone,

but his tour is over and hes on his way home.

He just reached home and what does he think?

Hes gonna go up to the bar and get him a drink.
He opens the door and strolls on in,
sits down and orders a Heineken.


Now he cant wait to just drink a beer,
hes finally safe from all of the fear.

Tryin not to think about what hes seen,
but the bartender says "your not nineteen".


He says "I know, but just listen to me please,
I just got done my tour from overseas.
I went to fight the war in Afghanistan,

with a helmet on my head and a gun in my hands.
And I was never much of a man to cry,
till I shot a man and I watched him die.

I pulled the trigger and then I realized,
that I shot a man the same age as I.
So all im askin is that you help me out,

by allowing me to get a nice cold stout"
