MR.E'S MATH RHYMES lyrics : "The Integer Song"

Hook (x2):
Sometimes we get our integers wrong

So listen up to the integer song

Verse 1:

We're talking about integers, kids
Not many people realize what an integer is

They're just whole numbers with a positive sign or a negative sign
Sometimes the negatives get ya
So here is a picture

What you need to know is that a negative number is less than zero
Ok, now let's count from zero to five
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Ok, count backwards
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, --1, --2, --3
You know the numbers get bigger as the value decreases

Yup, which they get more negative
0 -- 10 = --10
And --10 + 0 = --10

Now we go on to the next

Hook

Verse 2:

So, now we're doing adding and subtracting of the integers
--2 plus --3 is --5
Notice how the numbers that I added altogether had the negative sign

So that means if the numbers both have the same sign
Then you add the numbers up and you keep that sign
For example

--9 plus --1 is negative 10
3 plus negative 10 is --7
See, that's a little bit different

If the integers have different signs
You take the bigger one subtract the smaller one from it
Then you keep the sign of the bigger one

--22 plus 20 equals negative 2
That's because 22's bigger and the negative sign on that means pick it

Hook

Verse 3:

Let me show you what the negative do
23 minus negative two is 25

The negative sign switches when you subtract
That's because the minus sign means the opposite
See minus-ing a negative is so adding a positive

10 minus negative 12's 22 ooh
And negative 10 minus negative 12 is positive 2
That's because a minus a negative is a positive

And now you realize that the signs are different
So take the bigger from little
And that equals 2

The negative sign's on the 12 so that means that it's negative 2
So, try one on your own
Negative twenty minus negative eleven equals

Uhhh, hmmm
Negative nine
Alright, people

Time to go to class
So, I'll see you
