MR. EDMONDS lyrics : "Groups and Periods Song"

V.1 The periodic table looks complex but it's organized in ways you'll find that do make sense. The groups or families are arranged in columns but the periods are in long rows.

V.2 The groups of elements have family names, because some of their properties are very much the same. Things like re-ac-ti-vi-ty, especially, those are the columns.

CHORUS: The group number tells us how many electrons are in the atom's outer shell. The period number tells us how many electron energy levels that there are.

V. 3 Alkali metals - family name - for elements in Group 1 or I A , There's only one electron present in - the outer energy le-vel.
CHORUS

V. 4 The Halogens - family name - for elements in Group 17 or VII A. There's seven electrons present in - the outer energy le-vel. CHORUS

V. 5 The Noble Gases - family name - for elements in Group 18 or VIII A. Their outer shells are always filled, so they don't need, to bond with an element.

They're the Noble Gases ....... They don't bond with any element. (Brief interlude)
They're the Noble Gases ....... They don't bond with any element. (Brief interlude)

They're the Noble Gases ....... They don't bond with any element !
