Driven by years of despair
I try to help you

But you're not really there
You're never really listening
You never stop to reflect or pause

You just drain anyone near you
And continue with your futile cause

But sometimes I don't really care
Because when you're done draining me
I'm also no longer there

Can't show you that I'm happy
You'll try to take it away
Don't show you that I'm hurting

You might get excited by the prospects of pulling me deeper into your never ending misery
Doesn't matter how hard I try, you still manage to sink a bit lower
Doesn't matter what I do, you'll take it and forget about it by the next day

I don't know what to do about you anymore
My guilt and your disappointment have become a prison where I visit you
Your situation, my obligation, your hallucinations and incantations

I can't save you because you love your suffering more
Your beautiful mind has robbed you blind of compassion
You never stop to see what you're doing to me (anymore)

I love you, but I can't keep going inside your dark dangerous mind
The conversations have become too unkind
Your desires demand more than I can ever provide

It doesn't even matter darling cause you always need more
It feeds your suffering, it furthers your cause
I look into your eyes, sometimes I don't see you anymore

You're gone and left behind is a sad vacuous mind
I need to let go but you drag me back every time
You know my loyalty runs deep even if in the end

You'll try to destroy me to feed your appetite again
You can't change.. it's in your nature, I know
Your sweet voice calling me

Reminds me of better times
But that was then and this is now
I can't always pretend you're not hurting me

Ten seconds in and here it comes again
Your waves of darkness wash over me like ghosts in the night
Forgive me for wanting to live and to fight

To step out of the shadows and into the light
If I could, I would save you but you would only bring me further inside
Into the darkness and despair of your once beautiful mind
