It all started at the GCU

Where Dr. Grubbs can drop a thing or two
If you understand these little facts
You'll be able to comprehend the single, double, triple bonds

Between these three they get pretty strong
With intermolecular forces that are hard to separate
Unless you got a wicked base like NaNH2


Identifying these compounds is not too hard
Just look at the intersecting lines

If there is a positive charge on a carbon
That means there is an extra pair of electrons


Entropy is high today
Because I wanna make a carboxylic acid
First you gotta take a primary alcohol

Then chuck some jones into that mixture
Wait a bit for that oxidize
Then you got yourself an extra oxygen


Let say you want a ketone
Take a secondary alcohol and chuck some chromic acid

Wait a bit for that to finish
But don't forget to heat that up
Unless you do, you will mess that up


Lets take a stroll about our friend the ether
He's an oxygen bonded to carbons on either side

These guys are very unreactive
Which makes them a solvent for many reactions
Lets say you wanna separate

That ether on either side
Throw some Lithium hydride to split that
If that ether was symmetrical

You would get identical products
If that was asymmetrical, you'd get two different products
Lets say you've got a cyclic ether

To cleave that ring chuck some bromium hydride
