CGRASSGREEN lyrics : "Dollar Signs"

Refrain:
All this focus, on material possessions,
Which one, which one, is the most lucrative profession,

We know the answer, but we asked the wrong question,
All these changes, but still no questions.

Do we know what it means to have liberty?
Do we understand that we're not really free?
A disease is plaguing people's hearts and minds,

Replacing love with greed and dollar signs,

Now I ain't tryna get too political,

But why is it that congress can't even pass a bill?
Forget the side, right. Left. Center,
Forget it all, congress all sinners,

Now what is this preachin hate in Jesus name,
I know your bible and my bible ain't the same,
Work hard, and you'll always make enough money,

That's the story they tell in this land of milk and honey.

Refrain:

All this focus, on material possessions,
Which one, which one, is the most lucrative profession,
We know the answer, but we asked the wrong question,

All these changes, but still no questions.

See that's the issue it's a story, it's a tale,
Reality pales in comparison.
The great land of wealth, but you can't get in,

Like high school days, you can't fit in,
But it's more serious, you're gettin' delirious,
Two days without food, your daughter's still curious,

Never heard stranger words than lunch or dinner,
It's okay, but the hunger still lingers,
And you cry as she licks her fingers,

Cause a ketchup packet was all she had for dinner.

See they buy their clothes from a shining window sill,

She buys her clothes used from good will,
She looks up to her daddy,
But the distance, "Mind the gap",

She might as well be his caddy.
She does every little thing for him,
Acquiescing to his whims,

She says I love you daddy,
But her daddy don't love her.
A Narcissist, only concerned with his own desires,

What a beautiful daughter, too bad he lies to her.

So I hope you understand the situation,

That being poor and struggling is no recreation.
Too often we demonize the poor and needy,
Instead calling them entitled and greedy.

But question is, is that really true,
or does the real greed, lie within you.
A disease is plaguing people's hearts and minds,

Replacing love with greed and dollar signs.
