AC LAZARUS lyrics : "First Step"

Traveler without a map, lost in my own flow,

I want to rap, but have no idea where to go,

I envision this being the track that makes me,

But I have no idea where this music will take me,

I might become a legend, shake the game to its core,

But is it worth forgetting the man that I was before?

I might be shot down, dismissed and ignored,

But that can happen in the streets or when I'm on a world tour,

This risk that I fear is not knowing when,

The day'll come when I can never be myself again,

I question every move I make, I have ambition,

The problems just living with my indecision,

I need to live my life, follow my intuition,

My plans for the game must come to fruition ,

So the pen hits the paper but the voice of the hater inside

tells me that if I continue I will never survive

I'm too !@#^ytic I'm my own worst critic

And with every single word I get caught up in the hate,

How many times have I destroyed the verse that I create

How many times have I given up and not proceeded,

When one extra effort was all I needed,

How many tracks have I left dying,

When I should of made a point of fighting on and trying,

One loss gets thinking I'm not tough enough,

One defeat starts me thinking i'm not rough enough

I get no support from the world where I was born,

And when I look inside it's a double edged sword,

I see within me both promise and potential,

But I fear I'm lacking a main essential,

That's in the end what a good rapper's about,

Resolve, determination, and not self-doubt,

Why is it that every day the world seems colder,

And why does everyone keep looking over their shoulder,

As if life were just one threat than another,

Why call me enemy when you could call me brother,

When the streets that made me are the streets that hate me

And the streets that direct me are the streets that reject me

When the streets I embrace become a place

Without a name and a face, it's such a disgrace,

So neither the police nor a priest

Will get me to cease,

even if that means I'll continue on my own,

Alone, producing music that's homegrown

As long as I'm able to let the truth be shown

So my words'll be known

Cause all I own is my own flesh and bone,

Remember skill's independent of skin tone

So here I begin, let me never regret it,

The truth out my lips, let me never forget it,

And I might not make it, that's the truth I accept,

But 1000 miles will always begin with the first step
