JUNGLE ROT Terror Regime lyrics

What separates Jungle Rot apart from many of their peers is their songwriting. They have a way of crafting crushing, catchy and infectious material. Terror Regime is eleven songs, and at just under 35 minutes makes for an incredible fast listen. The material is easy to digest, accessible and never overstays its welcome. The release should appease longtime fans and create a new legion of death metal fanatics to expand their fan base.

Alongside the standard death metal elements, a lot of thrash influences seep into their sound. Album opener ?Voice Your Disgust? is a perfect example. A thrash infused guitar riff is executed alongside some spectacular double kick bass drumming. A Slayer-esque guitar solo is executed flawlessly. The title track is also another thrash inspired riff fest with a sick breakdown that will have you destroying your neck to the crushing groove riff that dominates. A palm muted staccato riff that just destroys is the highlight of the album.

So many of the album's bright spots are Jungle Rot's breakdown sections. They have perfected the groove oriented death metal riff. Their groove riffs have nothing in common with modern day metalcore and are a direct influence to the thrash breakdown. Listen to ?Utter Chaos,? ?Rage Through the Wasteland? and the excellent album closer ?Pronounced Dead,? as the breakdowns are the perfect counterbalance to the fast destructive riffing that makes up the majority of the record.

?Blind Devotion? sees the band incorporating their influences, in particular latter day Sodom. In fact, the main guitar riff is reminiscent of Sodom's latter day masterpiece ?Masquerade in Blood.? Even down to the drum pattern the similarities can be heard.

Vocalist and lone original member Dave Matrise is a powerhouse of a death metal vocalist. His style is both brutal and accessible at the same time. He actually writes memorable death metal melodies that will penetrate your brain like a bullet to the head.

Incredibly, the band seems to be getting better and Terror Regime is another standout album in their extraordinary career. Jungle Rot proves again why they are a premier death metal band and are not appearing to slow down anytime soon (By Dan Drago).
