Smoke in the dark makes me ask
Why can't I feel it?
Or even taste it as I draw it down

I cough now and then so perhaps
I should believe it
Only darkness keeps me down with the dust

To justify a reason
A reason why we just don't all have faith that we breathe it

Is darkness the only reason?
'Cos all our coughing should be all we need to believe it
But we don't and so we lie still


Weak with the strong and strong with the weak
Our egos betray love

We're like animals starved in our kind
Be strong with the strong look after the weak
Then we can preach love

Only apathy keeps us down with the dust

So I'll try

And I'll cry out to all of the others
All of the others who clasp to the dust here with me now
To justify a reason

A reason why we just don't all have faith and then prove it
Is distraction the only reason?
Because our willing is all that we need to break through it

But we don't and so we lie still

Is fear the only reason?
Because our willing is all that we need to defy it
