After days of glad rejoicing,
Came a time of grief for me,

When I stumbled 'neath the pressure of the rod;
And my heart so torn by grief
Found its comfort and relief

Only through the blessed promises of God.

So I pave the path before me
With the promises of God;
They have lightened ev'ry step my feet have trod;

Though the path may not be clear,
I can walk it without fear,
