He graduated from University of Central Missouri in 2006. He has been singing since he was in the 2nd grade; he also plays the guitar and bass guitar. Cook was a member of two bands, Axium and MWK. He is not related to fellow Idol Contestant Kristy Lee Cook.
Missouri native David Cook began singing when a teacher forced him to perform in a Christmas pageant in second grade. He took to music and remained devoted to singing on into adulthood, so when season-seven American Idol auditions came through Omaha, he jumped at the chance.
