PAUL BRANDT Give It Away lyrics

Give It Away is the sixth studio album by Canadian country music artist Paul Brandt. It was released on September 13, 2011 on Brandt's record label, Brand-T Records. The album includes reworked versions of two of Brandt's earlier singles, "My Heart Has a History" and "I Do," as well as a cover of Red Simpson's "The Highway Patrol."
Paul Brandt is in a reflective mood. On the veteran Calgary country superstar's latest, he lets it be know that as a man and a songwriter he's at a point in his life where he's in a pensive and contemplative frame of mind, willing to be able to step back and take stock of where he is in his life and career and acknowledge the whos and hows that got him here.

Hence Give It Away has material ranging from the tender and light bluegrassy ode to his first child Start With Love, and the sweeping Together Again, about the loss of a friend, to a pair of mature, hindsight reworkings of earlier successes, including I Do and, fittingly, My Heart Has A History. It's all admirable, and honest, but, as a whole, lacking in the emotional impact befitting the subject matter. A great part of it's owed to the performances, which are smooth and tasteful and, thus, sucked of much of their soul, while not really leaving much room for the listener to develop their own personal connection, and there's also the general tone of the record, which is as subdued as the material.

It's made that much more notable by the songs that step out, such as: The Pretty, quietly epic Worth, which owes as much to U2 as it does Nashville, allowing Brandt to Bono his way into a pretty lovely performance; the twangy, swaggering retelling of History; and even the frivolously fun Kooky Kountry closer The Highway Patrol, which not only ends things up but also looking out rather than looking in. by Mike Bell, Calgary Herald
